Air France would be good Alitalia partner-Italy PM

ROME, June 3 (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister SilvioBerlusconi said on Tuesday Alitalia (AZPIa.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) will needinternational partners and Air France-KLM (AIRF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) would be agood option for the struggling Italian carrier.

“I think Alitalia will need to find accords withinternational partners and … Air France could be a goodsolution,” Berlusconi told a joint news conference with FrenchPresident Nicolas Sarkozy.

Air France pulled out of a deal to buy Alitalia earlier thisyear in the face of trade union opposition to its proposedrestructuring plan.

Sarkozy gave a more cautious reply, saying future accordsbetween the two airlines were “up to Air France’s management todecide.

“I understand in Mister Silvio Berluscon’s answer the willto not rule out anything in the future,” he added.
