Canadian union vows to fight GM plant closure

DETROIT, June 3 (Reuters) - The Canadian Auto Workers unionsaid on Tuesday it will fight a decision by General Motors Corp(GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) to close a truck plant in Ontario, threatening tocomplicate or stall cost-cutting moves by the U.S. automaker.

CAW President Buzz Hargrove said GM’s move was notpermitted under the terms of a just-ratified labor contract andsaid the union had not ruled out a walkout against theautomaker as it presses for a reversal of the 2009 shutdown.

“Watch us,” he told reporters on a conference call fromToronto. “We’re not taking this lying down.”
