Credit Suisse hires Merrill banker in India

MUMBAI, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse (CSGN.VX: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) onFriday appointed a Merrill Lynch (MER.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) banker as managingdirector in its India investment banking team, a month afterpoaching three bankers from rivals.

Credit Suisse, which is strengthening its India investmentbanking coverage, said Pankaj Kalra would cover large clientsin energy, industrial and telecoms sectors where there wasincreasing mergers and acquisitions and capital raisingactivity.

Kalra was earlier a director in the general industriesinvestment banking group at DSP Merrill Lynch, the Indian unitof Merrill Lynch, since July 2006.

The Swiss bank in August named Sughosh Moharikar asmanaging director responsible for mergers and acquisitionsbusiness. Moharikar came from domestic brokerage KotakMahindra.

It also hired Samita Shah from Lehman Brothers (LEH.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) asmanaging director for emerging large client coverage and AshimAhuja from Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) as director.
