TEXT-NZ regulator to inquire into mobile roaming

WELLINGTON, Sept 8 - Communications and InformationTechnology Minister David Cunliffe today announced a decisionrelating to a Commerce Commission proposal in respect ofnational mobile telephone roaming.

Having previously accepted the Commission’s recommendationto amend the terms of the national roaming service, he has nowalso accepted the Commission’s view that the service should notbe subject to price regulation.

“After making my decision however, further potentiallymaterial evidence was brought to my attention. I believe itimportant that this evidence be tested.

“I am asking the Commerce Commission to consider whetherthere are grounds to commence a fresh investigation intowhether, in light of this new information, designation,including price regulation, is warranted.”
