Google extends AdSense to online games
October 9th, 2008 | by admin |Oct 9 (Reuters) - Google Inc (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) on Wednesday launchedtechnology to insert advertisements into online video games andboost revenue from the booming gaming sector.
The software, called AdSense for Games, is in beta testingand allows video, image or text advertisements to placed at thestart, end or change of level in an online game.
The advertisers are charged on a cost-per-impression orcost-per-click basis with revenue being split between Google andgame developers or publishers, it said in a statement.
Google is working with game makers including Konami Corp(9766.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Demand Media, run by former MySpace ChairmanRichard Rosenblatt, as well as advertisers like Sprint NextelCorp (S.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Sony Corp’s (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) Sony Pictures.
Data by comScore indicates that over a quarter of Internetusers, or about 200 million people, play games online with theirranks growing by 17 percent annually. (Reporting by Savio D’Souza in Bangalore; Editing by DavidCowell)
