Amgen signs IBM services deal worth up to $800 mln

BOSTON, Oct 23 (Reuters) – Biotechnology giant Amgen Inc(AMGN.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said it hired IBM (IBM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) to provide technologyservices in a deal worth as much as $800 million over eightyears.

International Business Machines Corp will provide computernetworks, software, messaging systems, helpdesk support andother services at an estimated cost of $500 million over fiveyears.

It includes a provision that allows Amgen to expand it foranother three years, which would bring the total value to $800million.

Amgen, the world’s biggest biotechnology company, disclosedthe deal with IBM, the largest technology services provider, onThursday in an 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and ExchangeCommission. (Reporting by Jim Finkle; Editing by Derek Caney)
