PSEG to keep emissions low at New Haven plant
November 21st, 2009 | by admin |NEW YORK, Nov 20 (Reuters) - PSEG Power said Friday theproposed $135 million, 130 megawatt peaking plant to be builtat its New Haven, Connecticut, power plant would not cause anet increase in emissions.
In an agreement with the city of New Haven andenvironmental groups, PSEG said in a release it expected thethree new natural gas-fired peaking units to enter service in2012. Peaking units run during times of peak power demand.
To avoid increasing emissions, PSEG planned to alter theoperating permit of the existing 448 MW oil/gas-fired Unit 1 toreduce its maximum output while the peaking units were inservice and burn more gas on unhealthy summer air days.
The city of New Haven agreed to support Connecticut SitingCouncil and state Department of Environmental Protectionapproval for the project, while the environmental groups agreednot to oppose the project.
